Frequently asked questions

FAQ.

Everything people ask before buying. Can't find yours? Email support@vidnexus.app and I'll answer personally.

Pricing & licensing
Is it really a one-time payment?+

Yes. Pay $1,499 once (or $999 if you grab one of the 10 Early Bird seats). You own a perpetual license to every v1.x release for as long as you use the software. No renewal, no subscription, no per-render fees.

What does "lifetime updates for v1.x" mean exactly?+

Every release versioned 1.0, 1.1, 1.5, 1.99 is yours forever, free. A future v2.0 would represent a major architecture change (rewrite, new licensing tier). When v2 ships, existing license holders can upgrade for a flat $199. We commit to a minimum of 12 months between major versions.

How many machines can I install it on?+

One license activates on 1 primary machine. You can deactivate from your account dashboard and move it to a different machine at any time - same model as JetBrains, Adobe, or any single-seat license. Need more machines simultaneously? See /enterprise for 5/10/25-seat team licenses.

Can I get a refund?+

Yes - 14-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked. Email support@vidnexus.app within 14 days of purchase and you'll get a full refund within 5 business days. After 14 days, no refunds. The guarantee applies even after you download and activate VidNexus.

Hardware & system
What hardware do I actually need?+

Minimum: Windows 10/11, 16 GB RAM, any modern CPU. Recommended: NVIDIA RTX 3060 or AMD RX 6700 (or better) for GPU-accelerated rendering via NVENC/AMF. A 5-min video renders in ~3 min on the recommended config, ~10 min on CPU-only.

Does it work on Mac?+

Not yet. Mac requires an Apple Developer account ($99/year) and physical hardware for testing. We'll add it when enough customers ask for it. Vote on the roadmap to push it up the priority list.

Does it work on Linux?+

Linux is closer than macOS - Tauri builds on it natively. It's in the Later column on the roadmap and ships when about 50 customers ask for it.

Does it work offline?+

Yes, after install. The only network calls are to your configured external providers (LLM, voice, stock) and an hourly license check. Disconnect the internet completely and existing projects keep rendering (the license keeps working for 14 days without a check) - only new script generation and stock searches need a connection.

API costs
How much do the API services cost?+

ElevenLabs voiceover is ~$0.35–0.50 per 5-min video, and less through ai33.pro (prepaid credits, $5 for 1,000,000). Pexels + Pixabay are free with API keys. Coverr is free with attribution. Ollama runs locally - $0 per script. So per-video API cost is typically under $0.50. You bring your own keys with zero markup from us.

Can I use OpenAI instead of Ollama?+

Yes. Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint works - OpenAI hosted, OpenRouter, vLLM, LM Studio, Together AI, Anyscale. Point VidNexus at the URL + API key and it routes through. Useful if you want GPT-4-class quality scripts without running a local LLM.

Do I need ElevenLabs specifically?+

No. VidNexus works with ElevenLabs or ai33.pro (OpenSpeaker), with your own key for either. ai33.pro gives you the ElevenLabs voice library plus MiniMax, Fish Audio and Vbee voices for less per character; voices you picked on ElevenLabs keep working through it. You can also record or upload your own voiceover for any scene.

Features & limits
What video formats can I export?+

Two formats, both 1080p. 16:9 Landscape for YouTube long-form (Short ~1 min, Standard ~7-9 min, Long ~15-18 min, Deep dive ~25-30 min) and 9:16 Shorts for YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Reels (up to 3 min; motion graphics are off for Shorts). Exports: MP4 (H.264), FCP 7 XML for DaVinci Resolve / Premiere, and SRT subtitles. Or publish straight to YouTube from inside the app.

Can it upload to YouTube for me?+

Yes. Connect your own Google Cloud OAuth app once, link one or more YouTube accounts to your channels, and publish from inside VidNexus with title, description, tags, category, language, visibility (private by default), schedule, playlist, thumbnail and made-for-kids flag. Every upload is kept in the publish history.

Is there a watermark?+

No. Never. Not even on the trial. Renders are clean.

Are there render caps?+

No. Render as many videos as you want. The only limit is your hardware throughput.

Can I use it commercially?+

Yes - the license includes commercial use. Your YouTube revenue, ad revenue, sponsorships, and client work are all yours.

Trust & operations
Why local-first instead of cloud?+

Privacy (your scripts/footage stay yours), economics (no per-render fees, ever), and speed (local GPU encoding is faster than upload + cloud render + download).

Who runs VidNexus?+

Vlad M. - solo founder; VidNexus is published by MYD International LLC. Built it because every existing tool either charged a subscription or put my data on someone else's server. Every customer email lands in my inbox.

What if VidNexus shuts down?+

Your installed copy keeps working - VidNexus runs locally. If the license server ever goes dark, we ship a final patch that disables license checks entirely. Your installed copy remains usable forever.

How long has VidNexus been in development?+

First commit was April 10, 2025. 14 months of solo development across 15 public releases by the time of v1.0 launch. See /changelog for the full release log.

Is the project funded? VC-backed?+

Bootstrapped. No VC, no Series A pressure, no growth-hacking quarterly targets. Pure lifetime-license economics - sell software, support customers, ship updates.

VidNexus vs. alternatives
How does VidNexus compare to VidRush?+

VidRush is cloud-based and charges per minute. Their pricing page quotes $1.56-$2.18 per finished video minute. The Starter tier is $99/mo and caps at 45 minutes (about 8 videos) a month. For a working creator's workload (25 videos × 5 min = 125 min/mo), you land on the Creator tier at $239/mo - that's $14,340 over 5 years ($11,472 with yearly billing) vs VidNexus's $1,499 one-time. See /vs/vidrush for the full breakdown.

How does VidNexus compare to Pictory or InVideo?+

Both are cloud subscriptions with monthly allowances. Pictory caps minutes (30, 90 or 300 a month), so 125 minutes a month needs its Teams tier at $199/mo - $11,940 over 5 years. InVideo sells monthly credits that expire; its Plus tier at $60/mo is $3,600 over 5 years and doesn't say how many finished minutes it makes. VidNexus wins on cost, motion-graphic depth, and the absence of caps. See /vs for full per-competitor breakdowns.

Is VidNexus comparable to HeyGen or Synthesia?+

Different category. HeyGen and Synthesia make AI talking-head presenter videos (always a face). VidNexus is faceless b-roll + motion graphics - no avatar. Both meter every minute through monthly credits: HeyGen's prompt-to-video Video Agent uses 80 credits a minute, so 125 minutes a month needs its $460/mo Pro tier ($27,600 over 5 years), and Synthesia needs a $176/mo Pro tier ($10,560). VidNexus has unlimited videos and minutes for $1,499 once. If you want talking heads, pick HeyGen. If you want faceless YouTube content, pick VidNexus.

Why is VidNexus cheaper if it does so much?+

Three reasons: (1) you run it on your hardware (we don't pay GPU costs), (2) you bring your own API keys (we don't pay ElevenLabs/Pexels/OpenAI), (3) one-time payment vs. subscription compounding. Cloud SaaS economics require recurring revenue. Local software economics don't.

Security & data
What data does VidNexus send to your servers?+

Only what's needed for licensing: a hashed machine fingerprint + license token + app version, in a license check about once an hour. Crash logs and usage events stay on your machine unless you send them to us with Report an issue. Never your scripts, footage, voiceover, or rendered MP4s. See /security for the full inventory.

Can I verify nothing else is being sent?+

Yes - block VidNexus's license server in your firewall and the app keeps working in offline mode (renders, scripts, motion graphics - all local). Or run Wireshark while VidNexus runs. The full verification command is on /security.

How are license keys protected?+

JWT tokens signed with an ed25519 keypair. The public key ships with the desktop app for offline verification. Your machine fingerprint is hashed (SHA-256) before being sent to the license server.

Is VidNexus GDPR compliant?+

Local-first design + EU-hosted license server makes GDPR very easy. We don't process your content. We hold a license record (email + hashed fingerprint + purchase metadata) for accounting and DPA-exempt support reasons. Full privacy policy on /legal/privacy.
